Finding a wife in the 1800's

How would someone go about finding a wife in the early
1800's?

I have ancestors who when they got married in the early
1800's were living in two different counties at the
opposite ends of England. I was wondering how they
could have meet and decided to get married, or is this
possibly a hint at an arranged marriage?
