The reason I asked was that the only relative of my mums mum was her sister
Christina but she seemed to be called Jessie

I've seen lots of 18th/19th century examples of Janet -> Jessie.

I've got a Chirstain (b 1665), which I suppose is roughly equivalent
to Christine.
