So Dave, what can you advise ( from your Engish Records)of the Death
of one William GIBB,
on board a vessell -- "near Australia" in 1884, possibly in last
quarter.
What details could I expect to find ??
You would find that William GIBB, aged 2 months died of Diarrhoea on 18th
October 1884, aboard the "Port Gordon" (official number 86732).
The RGSS received the return on 21st May 1885, and it is recorded on folio
1972 of 1883-1887 deaths.
That is just from the index (far more than you get from the regular index).
I've never had reason to obtain a certificate for a marine death, so I don't
know what further information might be on a certified copy (it would
probably give the names of the parents, and the exact location of the ship
at the time of death)
.
