The enquiry I made on sgj was genuine. A portrait of my
greatgreatgrandmother Sarah Andrade, 1798-1870 is sub-captioned
'Spanish Jewess'. I sought general background on Jewish movement to
the UK and on christianisation, and hoped that somebody might react to
the specific name Andrade. I also asked if and where any such
information can be obtained without visiting in person. That was
partly because I cannot visit anyway but also because such information
would be useful to anybody who is immobile and finds their genealogy
taking them into matters Jewish.

If you get a useful reply, it won't be available to other researchers in
years to come because all the messages seem to have been prefixed "X-No-
archive: yes".

ISTR from somewhere or other that "Spanish Jew(ess)" was a common way to
describe any Sephardic Jew(ess). See also "Bevis Marks Synagogue" etc.
