I think the information and ideas

fruitful lines of inquiry!
What about probate records?
While I was waiting for some documents to turn up at TNA, I had a look at
the National Probate Calendar. Here's one for starters...
1923 LONG, Constance Ellen of 48 Gordon Square, Bloomsbury. Died 16 Feb
1923 at the New York Infirmary, New York, USA. Probate London 30 April
to Lilian Ada CLARE, widow. Effects GBP 10,261 12s 8d.
(I've a feeling, with little evidence to support it, that Lilian Ada was
Constance's sister)
The only sister I can find at a quick glance is Louisa Josephine:
1871: RG10/1289 f99 p5 and 1891: RG12/998 f113 p1 (in 1881 the
parents, Joseph and Sarah Ann, are boarders in "West of England
illegible" RG11/2049 f81 p12, and Constance is in a boarding school
RG11/3746 f28 p22).
A guide to finding doctors is at http://user.itl.net/~glen/doctors.html
but most of the nitty-gritty isn't online. Medical journals and
yearbooks would be a good place to look, especially if they had
obituaries. Any large library may have some old yearbooks.
