Ancestry.com

For those who have recently joined us and wonder just what the various threads mentioning Ancestry.com might be referring to I give below an explanatory blurb that has appeared on another (maritime) list I belong to.

Although this blurb is aimed at Ancestry's home market of North America it is also thought by many to be the premier site for genealogical and family history research in GB, with the equivalent listings for this side of the Atlantic. Some of it's index files and data bases are free, but it will be found that to get the full benefit from it's content you will have to subscribe, at a reckonable cost.

I have no connection with the organisation; I am too mean to even be a subscriber.

Yours Aye Andrew Sellon
