Somewhat off-topic, but I thought the relevant knowledge was most likely to

In the recent TV dramatisation of Marie Lloyd's life, it was stated at the
end that her death was believed to be due either to mercury poisoning
arising from treatment of syphilis, or a broken heart. Since both of these
seem somewhat implausible,
The former is more likely than the latter.
I wondered how likely it was that the genuine
cause of death would be recorded on her death certificate.
Depends, as Don would tell you, if the cause was STD related, the doctor
might well have put a non-commital cause down to spare the feelings of
relatives/friends.
Having looked up what I think is the correct BMD reference (1922 Dec
Hendon 3a 326) I wondered about shelling out £7 for a copy of the
certificate, but I thought I'd check first if anyone else had already done
this (Brief googling revealed.no details of the cause of death, just that
she collapsed on stage after her health deteriorated)
