Maybe they thought that having children whilst he was away fighting
wasn't fair on her or the child if he were to be killed. His first
was also his last.
William was the fifth of six children. Of the other five I can't find
any children from one, haven't ascertained the husband of one so don't
know whether she had any children or not, the third couldn't keep her
legs crossed it would seem, the other two only had two children a
piece albeit one of them doing so by another man and not her husband.
She eventually married the father of her children after she became a
widow. That's what comes of being descended from a pirate, I guess
