but with the ratio of strangers to family at something like 1 billion to
1,
or say 1 million to 1 for the UK, a member of a typical family is more
likely
to encounter a deranged stranger than a deranged family member.

Although I don't know how the statistics are worked out, this sounds
confusing to me.
If there was a dangerous person in a family, then people in that
family would be likely to meet him/her.
I'm sure that I don't encounter 1 million strangers each day, but I
do see members of my family each day.
I don't know how long it would take me to encounter 1 million
strangers, and I don't know how many of them would be potentially dangerous
..Nor do I know what the chances are of being attacked if I did
come across a dangerous person.
..
Or is that what you were saying?
That the typical family doesn't have a dangerous person?
That the chances of anyone being attacked are I in a million?

snip

??
If it's a stranger why would you anticipate the event?

Quite.

If it's your husband/wife, there's probably a long build-up and plenty of
time to head for the refuge.

But people are still attacked by husband/wife so it cannot be that
simple to avoid.

Best wishes
C.Rihan.
