In any event, why would an actress whom I can tentatively (I say
tentatively because my researches are still at an early stage) show
is probably descended from William the Conqueror and at least seven
other English kings take exception to having the fact known?

She has the option of deciding that the publicised accumulation (not
the individual bits of information) amounts to something that
unnecessarily infringes upon the private life of herself or her family
or at worst amounts to a libel (that's why newspapers tend to have
bigger lawyers than other people) because of the way that the facts
are presented. "Publish and be damned" is alright for newspapers with
hefty bank balances but not for individuals. An assemblage of
information is a different animal from the facts (if indeed they are
all facts) in their isolated existences.>

Really, Charles, you're getting into the realms of fantasy now! Try
convincing a judge and jury that publicising the fact that someone is
descended from William the Conqueror is defamatory and libellous.

I've always thought that proving descent from people as far back as this
was usually in the realms of fantasy. Can you really *prove* it? How
many leaps of faith are there along the way?

My grandmother told me I was a direct descendant of Brian Boru. It's a
family joke.
