As to where the surnames suggest the Dempsters and the Swanstons came
from, well Dempster is a largely Scottish surname but by the 1880s it
was widely spread. The concentrations in Scotland were originally
Aberdeenshire/Banffshire, Angus, Fife and Clackmannanshire, but there
were also (by the early 19th century) strong concentrations round
Paisley, in Ayrshire and down that coast into Dumfriesshire.
There is a puckle up here in Argyll that seem to have been around for a fair
