Re: Question regarding Legacy

DARN. Knowing this, the next step would be to take the drive out of the old system, if you still had it, place it in the new one temporarily and copy the DB file to the new one.

Best of luck, happy hunting.

When you say you lost your DB, do you mean the files were erased, the entire PAF program directory is gone and / or did HDD get formatted? If it is one of the first two items try undeleting the files. For all three the Internet has free to try programs, that have a limited MB size or time frame of usage. So you may have to purchase one you find that works to your needs. If the file(s) are unrecoverable from the above steps, start with your back up DB. It cannot be as bad as starting from zero.

Else wise use PAF to save information as a GEDCOM and import it into Legacy. Then verify all the information in the format that you mentioned.

I do not use Legacy. But in FTM, I can save the ancestors or decendents of a particular line. No re-typing needed. Worst case make a copy of your original file under a new name and delete the info not needed (AKA the hard way).

I bought a new computer and the back=up file I had didn't work, so I have started again from scratch. I had no access to the old computer to be able to go back to it to get the data.

I'm pleased with Legacy, but wasn't sure how to go about isolating one branch of the family. Thanks to the help I got from everyone, I think I'm now able to tackle it once I get the rest of my Taplin's entered in.

Thanks again everyone for your help
