"Born but not registered in...." IME mainly refers to Church of
Scotland records so it is possible that the mother wasn't CoS anyway
and the birth would not have come under natural scrutiny from the Kirk
Session. This should not stop you from checking the Session records if
you get the chance as baptism records are not always perfect and the
principal subject of the Kirk Session's interest could have been the
father if he was causing a local nuisance and the resultant mothers
and children (who could have been e.g. CoS, RC, Episcopalian,
Baptists, Free Kirk, Congregationalists, etc. depending on time and
place) were witnesses/evidence rather than the accused.
