Re: Scottish birth query

<Some of it's the session Minutes, some of it's at higher levels. In any
case, it's all at NAS. A good read if you're interested in the whole
parish - everything from expanding waistlines to who deserves improvements
to his Manse.>

Thanks Lesley, I can see I would definitely enjoy being side-tracked at
NAS
:-)

On another track - would Kirk Session minutes help with the following do
you
think?

I have a chap who marries in 1855 (Scotland) and states he was born - but
not registered on....... Mother's name but no Father given on Marriage
cert.
His Mother never marries and lives alone and supports herself as I have
her
in all census from 1841 till her death in 1900.

Would there be any mention likely of her (and the father?) in the Kirk
session? Would this only happen if she was seeking support or would she be
pulled in to "name and shame" regardless?

This is the only venue I can think of to help me find his father but not
sure if it's going to offer anything as the first connection (I know of)
with a church is his marriage (the bride's Parish Church)

What do you think?

phil
