Roy hit the nail on the head when he stated the Danelaw areas had
wapentakes. The Danelaw stretched from East Anglia across to the tip of
Wales where Cumbria meets. Anything below this line save for Wales was
part of the Saxon Kingdom Wales was its own kingdom of "Foreigners" Wealh
meaning just that.

There are arguments that Cumbria was also a part of the "Wealh " people but
there is nothing definitive. This is a subject for Academia in fields such
as Archaeology and History.

As for the Rapes these were an administrative unit set up by the Normans and
the Hundreds pre date this
