Equally I've seen many Scottish cases where an illegitimate father is
named on the marriage certificate but not the death certificate.
Presumably the informants (often children) don't know the person's
father's name, though that could also happen (though more rarely in my
experience) with the death certificates of legitimate people as well.
My comments are based mainly on research in the Lowlands in the 19th
century, from north-east Scotland right down to the south-west.
