for the immersion intensive (it was 10 days, actually), the local
history lessons (I had no idea how entrenched the Welsh were in the
Maryland/Pennsylvania/Delaware area), and the social gathering

I remember a very interesting talk at a Llafur Conference in
Pontypool about a Welsh-language church which kept going in New York
City till, I think, the 'fifties. There may be others surviving.

Pontypool? My home town. Probably the least Welsh language place in Wales.
