Let's Boycott the Beijing 2008 Olympics

A Call by the Vietnamese Community to:
- The Secretary-General of the United Nations
- Heads of States
- Peoples of the world

On 2 December 2007, the government of Communist China formalized its
occupation of Vietnamese sovereign territory the Paracel and Spratly
Archipelagos when it unilaterally announced the establishment of the
district of Tam Sa, as part of the Province of Hainan.

This decision is the culmination of a succession of brazen acts
leading to the occupation of sovereign Vietnamese territory,
including:
- The use of naval power to occupy all the Paracel islands on 19
January 1974
- The continued use of naval power to invade some of the Spratly
islands on 14 March 1988
- The declared intention to annex the Paracel and Spratly Archipelagos
on 14 April 1988.

Together with the repression of the people of Tibet who are fighting
for freedom, these acts have unmasked the hegemonic nature of the
Beijing regime, their readiness to use force to violate the
territorial integrity of neighboring nations, regardless of historical
evidence.

The Spratly and Paracel archipelagos have belonged to Vietnam for more
than 300 years. China?s acts of aggression and territorial occupation
violated Article 2, Sub-Article 4, of the Charter of the United
Nations which states:
"The Organization and its Members, in pursuit of the Purposes stated
in Article 1, shall act in accordance with the following Principles:
4. All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the
threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political
independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with
the Purposes of the United Nations."
Pursuant to such article, a member nation shall not use force, in any
circumstances, to violate the independence and territorial integrity
of another nation.

China?s illegal occupation of the Spratly and Paracel archipelagos
will certainly create instability in East and South East Asia.

More deserving of condemnation is the fact that the government of the
Socialist Republic of Vietnam lacks the courage and fortitude to
denounce publicly, and protest vigorously enough in the international
forum, this flagrant invasion by their Communist mentor.

Considering the circumstances, we, Vietnamese all over the world:
- Earnestly denounce Chinese hegemony which has been evidenced by its
brazen use of force to occupy territory and sea areas of neighbouring
nations;
- Strongly condemn the occupation of Tibet and the barbarous
repression of its people;
- Refute Chinese sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly
Archipelagos;
- Call on the United Nations and other peace-loving and
justice-holding nations to use all means in their possession to
pressure China to return these archipelagos to Vietnam.
Together with her disregard for the massacre in Darfur, her continued
support for the military Junta in Burma, her violation of the human
rights of her own citizens, her occupation of the Paracel and Spratly
Archipelagos, and her invasion of Tibet and her repression of its
people, are evidence that China does not deserve the right to host the
2008 Olympics. Communist China lacks the spirit of peace, unity,
fortitude and respect for justice which are the essential underlying
elements of successive Olympic Games.

For the above reasons, we solemnly call on the peoples of the world
to:
Boycott the Beijing 2008 Olympics
