News reporters saying things like Irene was over-hyped

A large number of news reporters on the national news
scene have been saying that since precautions were taken by
responsible mayors , governors and other government officials, police
etc., the anticipated exciting tragic occurences they love to report
and their appearances on the scene giving the scoop to the world,
didn't happen as tragically as they were expecting they have been
saying "was hurricane Irene over-hyped?"
It isn't easy being the mayor of a metropolitan area
like New York City, and because of the precautions taken by
responsible city officials along the east coast in the path of
hurricane Irene, by Mayor Bloomberg and many others in other states
along the eastern coastline of the country,, we didn't hear the usual
"at least # have died". didn't happen as bad as expected because this
time responsible government officials acted in advance to prevent
unecessary and preventable tragedies.
Senator Bernie Sanders was on the Diane Rhem talk
show this morning saying hurricane Irene was the worst in Vermont's
history. Does that sound like hurricane Irene was "over-hyped"? Or
that resposible civic leaders acted responsibly to preclude tragedy.
As though 40, or fifty people losing their lives in hurricane Irene
and billions of dollars of storm damage to property and
infrastructure, including bridges across major waterways washed out
wasn't enough. This time the storm was prepared for, and if the fires
appearing in the south west had been prepared for in advance they
probably wouldn't be so out of control. All it takes is for
responsible officials to recognize that when a drought continues for a
month or more fires become inevitable due to the dryness of the woods,
and people won't have to abandon their homes due to unexpected
conflagrations that should have been warned about in advance as we did
with hurricane Irene.
So the next time you hear a news reporter saying
something brilliant like already a dozen people have died, just
remember, because of the courageous and responsible actions of mayor
Bloomberg of New YorK City and many other responsible officals across
the nation, damage to city infrastructure and property damage to
buildings and unecessary loss of life can be averted, and then we
won't have to listen to another news reported appearing on the scene
reporting unecessary and preventable tragedies and catastrophe.
