Beyond the celebrity sightings is a private Aspen outsiders rarely get
to see. On these pages, a peek over the top.

CAPTION(S):

Photos: The Locals: Many Aspen homeowners live in Los Angeles, Chicago
or New York. Richard and Debbie Jelinek, pictured standing by their
outdoor swimming pool, which is heated to 88 degrees year-round, are
real Aspenites. Richard, a health-care mogul, hunts elk and deer on
their 3,000-acre ranch nearby in Carbondale and uses the meat for
sausage, which he sometimes gives to the local fire chief, who repays
in kind with Alaskan salmon. Their daughter, Courtney Brinkerhoff
(left), submerged with her friend Chrissie, learned how to skin up
mountains and build snow huts on back-country class trips in junior
high school. ''We're normal,'' says Debbie, who is on the boards of the
Aspen Center for Integrative Health and the Children's Health
Foundation. Richard adds, ''A little beyond normal.''; Debbie and
Richard Jelinek, from left: Tory by TRB shearling coat, $2,198. At Tory
by TRB, 257 Elizabeth Street. Robert Lee Morris necklaces. Versace
boots. Ennio Capasa for Costume National Homme suede coat, $3,046,
corduroy pants, $307, and shoes. At Costume National stores.; The
Refuge: The Aspen home of David and Julia Koch was once known for its
New Year's Eve parties when David, a business magnate, was a bachelor.
''It's a family house now, and I'm very proud of that,'' he says. ''We
created a sanctuary.'' That's one way to look at it. Mounted on the
walls are a kudu, an eland, a cape buffalo and a sable antelope shot in
Botswana and Mozambique in the 60's with his father; a pair of
130-pound Ugandan elephant tusks frames the dining room. ''I stay at
home, light a fire, play with the children and look at the mountain,''
says Julia, who is regularly involved with the annual fund-raiser for
the Food Allergy Initiative. ''We have 12 wild turkeys that walk around
in the afternoon and a bear in the summer.''; Julia Koch wears an
Alesandro Dell'Acqua silk chiffon dress, $1,300. At Alessandro
Dell'Acqua, 818 Madison Avenue. Monique Lhuillier necklace and
bracelet. Celine shoes.; The Mountain: ''We were supposed to stay for a
month,'' says Wendy Block, who first came to Aspen with her family two
years ago. Wendy, pictured here on Aspen Mountain in front of one of
the Sno-Cats that provide access to back-country virgin powder, and her
husband, Chuck, who is building a development in Philadelphia designed
by Richard Meier, now own a vacation house on Red Mountain. Their
7-year-old twins attend the Powder Pandas ski school. ''My husband
doesn't really ski,'' says Block, active in the International Medical
Corps and the Every Child Foundation. He prefers a lunch reservation at
the Little Nell, the deluxe hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain.; Wendy
Block wears a Chanel sweater, $945, denim trousers, $1,110, belt and
leg warmers. At Chanel SoHo, 139 Spring Street. Adrienne Landau hat.
LaCrasia gloves.; The Frequent Flier: When it comes down to it, there
is only one way to get to Aspen. ''It is part of the lifestyle,'' says
Sanela Diana Jenkins, pictured at Aspen Airport. (Cindy Crawford and
her husband, Rande Gerber, hitched a ride on her Gulfstream in Los
Angeles.); The advantages include slashed travel time and the
convenience of gliding in and out of the region whenever the spirit
moves you. (''Last run, wheels up in 40 minutes.'') ''It's very
addictive,'' says Jenkins, who, among other pursuits, is a co-owner of
Melissa Odabash beachwear, a brand that is popular in Europe. ''Once
you've done it, you want to do it again.''; Sanela Diana Jenkins wears
a Rovalia mink poncho, $12,000. At J. Mendel boutiques. Missoni
sunglasses. Louis Vuitton boots and bag (carried by pilot).; The
Picture Window: Jennifer Stockman, president of the Solomon R.
Guggenheim Foundation and a national co-chairwoman of the Republican
Majority for Choice, curated her Aspen home to complement the sky and
the mountains that fill her striking view. Her contemporary photography
collection includes the acid-drenched ''Icestorm'' by Wolfgang
Tillmans, a scene of icehouses by Catherine Opie, and, hung high in the
living room, clouds by Roni Horn, who also produced the photographs on
the stands behind Stockman and her daughters, Victoria (center) and
Rachel. ''It feels very much like the weather, like the landscape,''
she says of the cumulative effect. ''It's how I like to feel when I'm
in Aspen.''; Jennifer Stockman and her daughters, Victoria (center) and
Rachel, from left: Valentino jacket, $17,800, and pants, $1,950. At
Neiman Marcus. Manolo Blahnik shoes. Roberto Cavalli rhinestone shirt,
$1,040, embroidered V-neck shirt, $1,210, skirt and jeans. At Roberto
Cavalli, 711 Madison Avenue. Stephen Dweck bracelet (center) and
necklace. Roger Vivier boots (center). Frye Boots (right). Adrienne
Landau throw (on sofa).; The Members: ''The Aspen Mountain Club is
great because you know you're going to see all of your friends who are
in town,'' says Colleen Bell (right), an environmental lobbyist. She is
on the sun deck with her longtime friend Nancy Crown (left), whose
family owns the club and the Aspen Ski Company. ''This is a ski town,''
Crown says. ''People come here for the scene, but it's about the
mountain.'' If you want both, add your name to the waiting list, where
the price of admission includes two lifetime ski passes, the gourmet
attractions of the clubhouse, a heated locker at the Little Nell and
plenty of local cachet.; Nancy Crown and Colleen Bell, from left: Louis
Vuitton mohair cape, about $4,200, and silk-and-wool-twill skirt,
$1,680, belt and shoes. At www.vuitton.com. Wolford stockings. Celine
double-face wool-and-cashmere cape, $3,100, stretch flannel pants,
$700, and shoes. At Celine stores.; The Log Cabin: ''You wouldn't think
the Ellsworth Kellys, the Warhols and especially the Basquiats would
work in a log cabin,'' says David Nathanson, an executive at the TVG
interactive horse-racing network. He is in front of one of the two
fireplaces made of Colorado river rocks that dominate the great room of
his family's mountain retreat. When his parents run out of space in Los
Angeles, art is often sent here, where it joins a rotating collection
that includes works by Ed Ruscha, Cindy Sherman and Robert
Mapplethorpe. His mother, Jane Nathanson, helped found the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and is also on the board of the Aspen
Art Museum. ''If you are passionate about art,'' she says, ''you can't
live without it.''; David Nathanson wears a DSquared parka, $4,485. At
Bergdorf Goodman. Paper Denim & Cloth Jeans. Frye Boots.Produced by
