Mostly serious. SCT was a mess even in 1997 when I first started
reading it. Lots of personal attacks, just like today, but many more
spiritually generous people to counter-balance. Loads of contention
but it seems people didn't take it so seriously. I'm probably just
romanticizing something that was far more corrupt than I recall.

Harassed, sure. But people harassed each other 12yrs ago, too. No, I
don't think that's what's created the exodus of the past few years.

I wouldn't characterize it as being chased away. I don't see any of
these people as being so weak that they can't deal with childish
antics sufficiently. Some people have made the environment filthy and
dangerous. People posting sexually horrendous things about the minor
children of others, then giving addresses and phone numbers as one
enormous example of why some people might think it's just not a
healthy place to hang out at anymore. Being repulsed is a little
different from being chased away.

Again, one bonehead doesn't have that much power over others. No,
that's not logical. I'd say it's more an issue of a fouled
environment and a really lousy signal:noise ratio. There's a lot more
going there than a few cherry-picked trolls can cause.
