Khun Galoubet I normally go to Saphaan Phut, but unfortunately Loy
Krathong night is blighted everywhere on the river these days by the
morons who swim in the river a few metres from where people launch
their krathongs and immediately trash them for the sake of the baht
coin or two that is in the krathong, why the police don't put a stop
to this is a mystery to me. Loy Krathong at Saphaan Taksin also has
these morons. This year it looks as if the river will still be at a
high level which plays havoc with the krathongs as well. Take your
pick, it's still a great atmosphere in Bangkok on that night. And of
course Thai people say that Loy Krathong it is the most romantic of
all the "praphenii Thai" the night where a maidens virtue is at its
most vulnerable so it's looking good for you that night 55555.
Thanks for that, Sandy. I knew you were the man to ask! I last
attended Loy Krathong in Chatucak Park several years ago. Clearly the
krathongs don't have a very long journey there whatever the obstacles
in their path. But, sure, there were kids then raiding the rafts for
the coins.

I feel sorry for the people who obviously spend a lot of time making
their own Krathongs, some of them quite elaborate and beautiful only
to see them pounced on by young men and pulled to bits for a baht or
two.
A few years back a visit to Saphaan Phut meant having to run the
gauntlet of firework throwing morons as well and Farangs were a
particularly juicy target. The police are to be congratulated for
putting a stop to that mindlessness, now if they would just let the
krathongs float their way down the river unhindered, how much better
it would be.
