Re: Happens all the time

The reports given out at work today on the Airbus Intranet :

1)
A380 minor damage in Bangkok

On 1st September, as the A380 MSN007, currently touring major airports in
Asia, was being pushed back to take-off from Bangkok, the left wing tip
fence touched a hangar and incurred minor damage. The Airbus technical team
did a quick inspection and removed both wingtips in under 30 minutes so the
demonstration flight to Chiang Mai could depart with only 2 hours delay. The
flight took place in perfect conditions and the A380s Asian tour will
continue as scheduled with next stops in Hanoi and Honk Kong for the Asian
Aerospace airshow.

Wing tip devices are aerodynamic shapes that improve the performance of the
aircraft and not a safety related device. The A380 is certified to fly
without them. The wing tips removed from MSN009 will be installed to MSN007
in Hong Kong.

AFP (01/09), Aujourd'hui en France (02/09)

An Airbus A380 scraped the tip of a wing on a building at Bangkok's
international
airport on Saturday as it was preparing for a demonstration flight, an
Airbus official
said. The plane had arrived from Toulouse to Bangkok on Friday, as a first
stage of a
demonstration tour in Asia.
A spokesman for the plane maker said the aircraft had to be grounded for
several hours, adding that the incident had been due to "faulty
communication" between the pilots and ground staff. The head of Airbus's
communication department added that the incident "did not reflect any
technical problem related to the aircraft". She added that the A380
"performed all its demonstration flights as planned".

Report 1 gives a delay of only 2 hours, Report 2 gives 'several' hours . . .
.. .

Still - it is a lesson learned before paying customers were inconvenienced
