Chris, I agree that under the functional point of view Suvarnabhumi is not
any bad - I didn't and I don't want to complain about that. What I dislike
and do complain about is exactly the "semi-finished [I would say plain
unfinished] look of the interior with its bare concrete and metal". This
is in stark contrast with the traditionally baroquesque decorations the
Thai people are so fond of and reknown for. It might be fine as long as
you just have to stay there a dozen of minutes before you leave the
airport, but I think that working over there, spending many hours everyday
in Suvarnabhumi must be depressing. Thailand used to have no spot that
looked so gloomy, gray and dull. This is what worries me. There's nothing
to smile about a place that looks like a steel furnace; this is not what
people expect to find in Thailand, people go to Thailand to find just the
opposite of an industrial-like gigantic bare concrete and steel structure
that swallows them. Poeple go to Thailand to find lush gardens, colored
flowers and smiling people. To these people Suvarnabhumi is a shock, a bad
welcome into LoS.
