So for now you won't tell how one can be miraculously cured?
How can we imagine a cure when we do not understand, yet, the condition with
which we may be afflicted ourselves at a tertiary level, for some reason
having bypassed the usually fatal balcony flying stage ? You can certainly
see an evolutionary advantage to have some survivors who are, perhaps,
carriers to the hypothetical syndrome vector.
How can we imagine the miraculous when the ordinary is so strange that you
cannot even trust a mirror ? Do you think it is an accident that in Thai the
word for "liar" (gohok) rhymes with the word for "mirror" (gajok) ? Ajharn
Sumedho likes to point out how in Thai the words for "ordinary" and
"natural" (tammida, thammachart) contain the root word for the Dharma, the
most profound cosmic truth.
I would have thought increased testosterone levels might be a trigger to
the syndrome and that cash withdrawals are a symtomp of the disease but
not a trigger?
A very important point, Khun Nick, which I think goes to the issue of
"dependent origination" and multiple synergistic feedback loops of Pavlovian
responses perhaps reinforced by watching young gyrators in states of
synaptic
dis-inhibitiion.
Could it be you're confusing the cause of the disease with
it's symptomps?
Could be ! That could be a symptom in itself, that reversal of perceptions.
An
excellent point for future research. Consider role of "denial" in alcholism
?
Is travelling almost penniless a good vaccin against this "FGS", are
backpackers auto-immune to this disease?
Another excellent research idea ! We could have two groups : one being
farangs with money who we make penniless and then send around the Kingdom,
and the other the 'naturally penniless' who we give the money from group one
to. We then observe the experiences of both groups, noting engagements,
marriages, births, purchase of land, baht weight of gold purchased, and
balcony flights survived or terminal.
Did you note that some people describe these behavoiral abberations
actually as "having a good time" and are not looking for a cure at all
but really like to "go ape" and don't mind being God's ape?
We are going to need ethicists, theologians, maybe even proctologists, or
Maxwell, or Pluto, to work on this one with us, Nick.
