I am not saying you are a bad customer but, anyone who buys a computer
in 1995 that breaks or malfunctions 8 or 10 years later should not expect a
replacement of any kind. Warranty periods on PCs are generally 1 to 3 years
and finding a 3 year warranty is not that common. Actually 1997 to 1999 the
most common processers were Pentium IIs or Pentium IIIs.
Additionally, a PC purchased at Walmart would have been most likely an
HP brand. Walmart employees are not people I would expect to know anything
about computer support. The computer support for a Walmart purchased PC
should have been the Hewlett Packard help line. Likewise a PC purchased at
Circuit City or Best Buy if truly defective should be supported by HP, or
Sony or whoever else manufactured the PC. The stores are really just
middlemen. And Best Buy's Geek Squad is a service available to a PC
purchaser but, they normally have an hourly fee of maybe $50 to $75 per hour
to set up home networks, training or whatever.
