Dear netizens, let's make history

Singapore Democrats

His army of supporters kindled the flame, fanned it bright, and
finally made it roar across the finishing line. They made his campaign their
own and they delivered their candidate, once considered a long shot, to the
White House. How did they do it: Internet.

"Were it not for the Internet, Barack Obama would not be president.
Were it not for the Internet, Barack Obama would not have been the nominee,"
said Ms Arianna Huffington, editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post.

Former South Korean president, Mr Roh Moo-hyun, also staked his
campaign on the Internet and won.

"The development of Internet technology has changed the whole
political dynamic in South Korea to an extent that the outside world has not
yet grasped," said Yoon Yong-kwan, the head of Mr Roh's then transitional
team.

Even in Malaysia the opposition created political history when it
overcame the Barisan Nasional's grip on half-a-century of power. The
Internet was the Pakatan's staunchest and most effective ally.

Can we create history in Singapore too in the upcoming elections?

Granted, the political situation in these countries, especially the US
and South Korea, could not be any more different from Singapore's. We face a
regime hell-bent on keeping its grip on power.

Yet there is much that we can change in this GE. We can unlock the
powers of the Internet and harness its energy for political change.

The explosion of Internet technology has never allowed us to dream so
big and hope so fervently till now.

There is much that we can do, much that we need to do And we must do
it now. We cannot wait until the elections are announced before we embark on
our campaign.

We want our fellow netizens to be an integral part of our campaign and
feel for the first time what it really means to be a citizen of this
republic of ours.

make history!
