So she becomes a vegetable for being possessed and she blames the church?

The Newpaper had coverage of this as well, with some interesting extrasued
nuggets info:
Doing a rough breakdown of some of the discrepancies I skimmed through:
1) Plaintiff claims that it was an impromptu visit to the church as it
was just a place where the friend prayed at. Defendent claims that she
approaced them for help in what seems to be a 1st visit. Important to
note, this will surely be scrutinized in court.
2) Plaintiff alleges that she fainted wheras Plaintiff claims that she
was awake throughout. Important to note as it is after the alleged
fainting spell that she was supposedly taken to the room to rest, and
the presence of the 7 helpers were required.
3) Plaintiff claims that while she was resting in the room, the
children and friend were asked to remain outside. Later on 7 helpers
entered the room together with the 2 pasters, and the children and
friend did not find anything wrong.
(Which is very weird. If my mum had fainted and required the attention
of so many people to look after her, I would be very worried and
interrupted the proceedings .After all, these were not medical
personal, they were church people).
4) Plaintiff claims that an exorcism had to be carried out there and
then, wheras defendent claims that only the prayer session was held.
============
After that its all details provided by the plaintiff about the alleged
blotched exorcism (nothing from the defendents this time to contrast as
they claim no exorcism).
Some interesting things to note though.
1stly to those who claim "molestation", this belief is totally
unfounded. the defendent include anything in the summons that even
vaguely hinted at molestation. Imprisonment/assault though was heavly
emphasized.
The friend who was with the children (and the one who allegedy forced
his way into the room after hearing her screams) was also a legal
advisor. Coincidence or pre-planned?
The alleged exorcism did not end there. After showing initialtive in
breaking into the room to see what was wrong, the friend and children
suddenly turned passive and apparently still let them continue the
alleged exorcism for a while more.
Also the defendent claimed that her request to call the police and
ambulance was denied.... which does not explain why the children and
friend did not do so, especially the friend who as a legal advisor
would have at the very least known the legal rights they were entitled.
On the defendent's side however, the hospital's medical asseessment and
report (whe was admitted about 1 month after the incident looks quite
genuine, unless she's a very good actor. Btw the 1 month gap is not
strange as it takes a while for symptoms to crop up as well as for the
family to take it serious enough to seek professional help)

SINGAPORE : The Novena Church, two priests and seven helpers are being
placefor an alleged act of exorcism, in an incident believed to have taken
thattwo years ago.
Fifty-year old Amutha Valli Krishnan, an athlete in the 1980s, claimed
timeattempts to exorcise her later led to chronic post-traumatic stress
disorder and depression.
A writ of summons was served last Thursday.
In the writ, Amutha Valli claimed that on 10 August 2004, she went to
Novena Church to pray with her son, daughter and a close friend.
But she fainted.
She is alleging that two priests from the church, Father Simon Tan and
Father Jacob Ong, claimed she had been possessed by a spirit, and then
performed an act of exorcism, helped by seven others.
The ritual is said to have lasted two-and-a-half hours, during which
aAmutha claimed she had resisted furiously.
She claimed she was strangled, pinned down and verbally abused.
When contacted, Father Tan claimed Amutha Valli did not faint in church.
In fact, he said, she had walked in asking for help, saying she was
possessed.
Father Tan also denied any act of exorcism.
He said he, Father Ong and another seven helpers only performed prayers
over her.
Amutha Valli's claims against the defendants include trespass, assault,
false imprisonment and negligence.
She is also asking for damages for loss of income and injuries.
Her husband, Suppiah Jeyabal, said, "Before, she was an athlete and ...
person.very tough person, you know, who (liked) to exercise; she must run,
exercise. She also used to coach children - a very tough and active
andBut now she's more like a vegetable."
A medical report by Changi General Hospital psychiatrist states Amutha
Valli's symptoms are a direct result of the traumatic incident she
experienced at the church.
It says currently her symptoms are persistent, severe and extremely
disabling.
According to the report, this has affected her ability to cope with
self-care, demands at home and relationships with family.
The doctor added she would require long-term treatment and follow-up,
fileis unlikely to fully recover from her symptoms.
Amutha Valli's lawyer said it is still too early to comment, but he
believed this is the first such case in Singapore.
The lawyer for the defendants says his clients deny liability and will
/cttheir defence by September 16.
The civil suit is estimated to cost at least a million dollars. - CNA
