Yes. I agree.
Peck the salary of not only the minister, but
also the wages of workers to price increases
and the GDP per capita income.
Over the years, .........
Prices had increased by 55 times (folds) but
wages had increase by only 16 times (folds).
Profit had increased by a 1000 times (folds)
This income and price gap is getting worse
every year.
If PM Lee does not make correction to
this huge anomaly soon..... most workers will
be in very bad state.
It will become a huge social problems....we will
all be as poor as Indonesians and Indians.

Exactly the rationale for Mr Low's proposal that the ministers' pay to
be pegged to the bottom 20 per cent plus a multiplier. Doesn't matter
if the multiplier is 100x or 1000x. If the lowest paid Singaporean lot
improves, the ministers' pay improves. Not when they are getting
richer while the poor are getting poorer.

Good you do understand the purchasing power
of money and purchasing parity.
If an employee earned US$359 per year in 1965,
ie about 2/3 of Per Capita income (US$512) ...
he should be paid now US$18,500 a year now.
Why is he paid only US$6,000 a year now?
Where as, the company's profit has gone from
millions to multi-billions.
This is the reason for the income-price gap...the
underlying problems faced by many workers......
prices had gone up year by year...but his income
stay stagnant, or lagged far behind.
Shouldn't the government ensure that its hardworking
workers get a fair share of the pie....rewarded fairly.

In 1965, HDB 5-room flat at the point-block, I think, was only
$35,000/=

I have proof that you pluck figure from the air.
Singapore's per capita GDP in 1965, 1996 and
2005 were as follows--
1965 - $ 512
1996 - $25,215
2005 - $26,833
2005 - $28,100 (adjusted to purchasing parity)

These figures are not plucked from thin air...some
or from PAP propaganda.
I got them from the CIA - The worldfact book.
See website below;
https://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/sn.html
GDP (purchasing power parity): $124.3 billion GDP (official
exchange rate): $110.6 billion GDP - real growth rate: 6.4%
GDP -
per capita (PPP): $28,100

Singapore performed well in comparison with
previous years, and when compared with others
in Asia. (Our GDP was $124 billions, GDP
real growth rate was 6.4 % and our per capital
income shot up to $28,100. Tens of thousands
more jobs were created,..unemployment is down to
3%. )
This good performance did NOT translate to
better living standards for Singaporean. In fact,
it has gone worse, like you say, because of
rising prices....bus and MRT fare, ERP,
coffee, hawker food, taxi fare, (on the average
Singaporean spend about 50% of their disposable
income on transport and food for their families)
Shouldn't the PM tell us how he is going to
translate the good performance to improve the
quality of life for Singaporean.
Do you have anything against asking PM to
tell us what he will do ?

Are we going to be told about how well we
performed.....so what. What's the reward for
the good performance....for US.
All the stale news will put us to sleep while
PM talk.
Will there be real news, real excitement, solid
improvements in our life that will put fire in our
stomach, captivate our absolute attention, ...news
that will make us feel our goose bumps!
