His given reason is that the boy's mother tongue is English (she is

Khaw is reacting like any other concerned father, and simply wants to
know why his daughter did not make the grade when he has been given
the
impression that she has been attending lectures, tutorials and labs
faithfully. If the kid had been playing truant and maybe up to
mischief a la Tammy NYP, he would be eternally grateful to the NUS
staff for highlighting it to him. After all, Khaw says he was the
one
who straightened out TT Durai's NKF, he wouldn't do less for his
darling daughter.
