Well, the people who locked up Robert Ho must have considered his
postings as serious enough since they did not dismiss them as "fringe"
rantings. The corollary is that they are clinically insane to treat the
rantings as lucid threats.
But at stake here is the right to free expression, be it in print media
or cyberspace, and the recognition that Singaporeans are matured enough
to discern truth from friction, such as whether a casino is different
from an IR, as maintained by George Yeo. If the internet is "fringe
media" as the Minister put it, why did Balaji ban podcasts, and,
significantly, images of election rallies?
The same obssession, and some will say insecurity, underlines the ban
of satellite dishes for private use. The CNN clips you watch on SCV or
CNA are censored. I was in New York when the news broke on the crash of
SQ006 at Taipeh. SIA's public relations executive Clements
whats-his-name was on TV declaring there were no casualties. CNN cut
immediately to the Yahoo executive (who later sued SIA), who fumed:
"The man in first class burst into flames right in front of me, how can
there be no casualties?". Returning home to Singapore, I found none of
my friends recollect seeing the same CNN clip.
The internet community is still small in Singapore. When it gets
bigger, and every Ah Pek and Ah Soh starts reading the news there, you
can bet the guns will be pointing here too.

LOL!! Makes u wonder who is more insane. Bob Ho? Or those who take Bob
Ho's crazy rantings as lucid and therefore, serious threats?
