I guessed you would say that in defence - fact is the hospitals etc have
improved tremendously and medical treatment has progressed out of sight but
absolutely at much higher costs - the development of the country and its
economy has progressed well apace - so the costs are more than outweighed by
the higher revenues in all other sectors..

Look at the port - there was a day in 1964 - during the Indonesian
confrontation when there was not a single vessel in port - I remember this
so clearly as my first thought was whither Singapore? - but we still built
Singapore into the greatest or busiest port in the world - and with it the
economic benefits directly and indirectly.

The govt must ask itself and question inwardly their objectives in helping
the citizenry and they must always provide for these two pre-requisites -
education and medical whatever the economic status of their citizens and
only then will they be a great peoples' govt.
