The Chinese population is about 3/4. To be fair, either all constituencies are made GRC or all SRC. There is no reason to have both GRC and SRC. The GRC way is to make all constituencies with 4 MPs, one of them must be a minority. The SRC way is that all constituencies have only one MP each but identify 25% of the seats to be contested only by minorities.

PAP explained the need of GRC by saying it was a measure to ensure minority race representation in Parliament. Without GRC, none of the Malay or Indian candidates may be elected.
The intention is laudable, ....for the voices of Malay and Indian to be represented in parliament. However, there must be 'safeguards' against abuses....Unfortunately, there was NO built-in safeguards against abuses. PAP have taken advantage of this flaw in GRC ....and used it as a tool unfairly against the other parties.
For a MP of minority races to be elected,.... a two member GRC is ideal.....one Chinese candidate with a Malay/ Indian candidates. Up to 25% of the constituencies can be a 2-seat GRC, proportionate to the population. These safeguards should have been written into the Constitution. But alas....the omission was to be exploited by PAP. There is absolutely no justification for a GRC group of more than 2 candidates..... Without this limitation, PAP have enlarged GRC to sizes beyond the means of other parties to compete.
GRC with a more than 2 candidate is flawed and is against the principle of democracy !!!
Using the flaw in the GRC, PAP can theoretically arrange for an election with only two constituencies....one... a single seat constituency and the other a 83 seat GRC. This will allow the maximum of only one opposition candidate to be elected. To exploit the flaw of GRC in another way, PAP can arrange to have a large 42 seats GRC, and the rest single seat constituencies. With a 82 seats parliament, PAP cannot lose..... A third way to exploit the flaw of GRC, PAP can prevent other parties from contesting, by increasing the size of GRC until other parties could not afford the resources/money needed to compete in GRCs..This was what happened. PAP can retain power in perpetuity. With this flaw, the GE is in fact a sham....no better than a Hollywood production.
Now, the GRCs are with 4 or 5 seats each and only 9 single seat constituencies. PAP employ this under hand tactic to win election undemocratically and to retain power unfairly.
Is this what Singaporean want!? A loaded dice for PAP to win !!
Even if the current leaders perform poorly (I am not saying this is so) there is no way Singaporeans can use their votes to change the leaders they no longer wanted, ...at the GE. Is this democracy????
If PAP is honest and fair, and subscribe to democratic principles, it must take steps to remove this flaw in GRC and amend the Constitution to build in 'safeguards', before the next GE.

Singapore is a small island, unlike other countries. GRC is a very innovative and suitable way to bring a team of useful people to run a constituency.
