The TT Durai saga is one of "Hero to Zero".
At one point the NKF was a model of success and everyone wanted to be a
part of it.
Now, it is a model of "mismanagement" and everyone is keeping his/her
distance from it.
Durai was a "Hero" at one point as he was the man who was behind the
phenomenal success of the charity and its high-profile fund raising.
It was a model of how a well oiled ship should be run, it even feels
hip to donate to it, with all the trappings of the star-packed
thriller-entertainment community, all in the good name of charity.
But now, he is grounded to a "has-been" and brought back to ground
"zero".
How did the journey transit from glory to infamy within such a short
spell of time?
What went wrong? Is he a good man in a bad circumstance? or was he a
mastermind behind a well conceived charade?
The views are divided. While certain high-powered people have vouched
support for TT, an even greater number of donators have felt
"betrayed".
KPMG's latest report had uncovered disturbing news about mismanagement
with the organisation.
The key question left unanswered is "Has TT done wrong?" or "Is he a
victim of circumstances?". Circumstances that had allowed sloppy
management within the organisation that not only he as CEO is
responsible but also the Board of Directors and Regulatory Bodies and
even Donators needed to take some measure of responsibility.
Some people had asked for some heads to roll. Is it so simple? If TT is
punished severely, would that bring comfort to everyone? Would some
other right culprits get scotch free? I think a more thorough
investigation is still needed to establish "malicious intent" and to
find the real culprits besides the obvious. The important thing is to
learn lessons from this episode and to build a better framework for
governance of such charitable institutions.
