Well folksI'm very glad that I got to meet Ian - he was even better in person!
I'm home, have had a day at work and some time to reflect - and I
still feel really numb at the thought of Ian's death.
I spent the last two weeks in France, and despite knowing he wasn't
much of a Francophile, I kept an eye out for any UK registered
motorhomes in case it happened to be him.
A hobby of his in the past was model trains and we visited a huge 400
square metre layout in France. One of my thoughts was to try and get
some phoaties to show him.
I never met the man, only knew him through the internet, but he
certainly made a mark. His work on the website, his political views
that were very similar to mine and his ability to deflate egos were
all appreciated, by me at least.
Where people can be a bit 'picky' about their whisky an unashamed
preference for Pepsi and Grouse showed him up as somebody who had no
fears about doing his own thing.
He had talked about driving the motor home up to Melness, and I was very
much looking forward to having a visit from them.
I was reading through old posts last night and found some on that. He
offered to bring his own Pepsi!
