As I've always maintained of course.
Unless you think The Mad Cow really gave a shit about 2,000 yokels
on a wind-swept rock -er - somewhere.
So what if it was about oil? You think the UK should just have said
ok,
you can have it even tho we have been here for over 100 year?
Actually, yes I do.
A settlement should have been negotiated long before Argentina
decided to invade. Thanks to Galtieri and the Mad Cow playing
politics to bolster their personal reputations, 255 British and 649
Argentine soldiers, sailors, and airmen plus 3 local civilians died.
On that basis, surely _every_ country which has acquired/claimed
territory since a certain year (1833 for the Falklands) should hand it
back to the previous owners. S'only fair, eh? <stir stir>
agree with you.
I suppose there have been plenty of similar examples through the ages.
Trouble is, what's a fair cut-off date for wrongdoings to be righted?
My mum would probably have suggested 318 but she was a MacDonald.
Ah, that sad anniversary passed on the 13th of February.
If none, we all ought to pack up and return to our ancient homelands in
East Africa.
Another wee point that doesn't seem to be picked up on too much is that
Argentina itself is a colonised country. That land was taken from the
indigenous people who lived there; I'm guessing not on a voluntary basis.
It doesn't seem as if the Argies have any greater moral claim on the
Falklands than the UK has.
