You need to spend more time in Toronto :)
Absolutely.
_ I _ can hear the difference :-( MY grand kids speak
funny!
That should have read, "Canadian grand kids".
In what way? Do they speak English?
No, My gson in Princeton NJ speaks ENGLISH!
And the grandkids in Canada don't?
No, I told you they speak funny :-)
I keep on asking you but you haven't told me yet - in what way do
they speak funny?
You know? Scotty might be on to something. My American friends
tend to tell me that *I* speak funny. I don't geddit. I just don't
geddit, eh? Maybe those Merks know something we don't, eh?
I don't think so. Though maybe in your part of Canada, they speak
funny :) though I have cousins in Vancouver and they sound the same
as people in Ontario. I have a neighbour who is originally from
Newfoundland and she sounds different from people in Ontario. I can't
understand everything she says. Do you think Jim Carrey sounds
different than other actors in American movies or Mike Myers or
Martin Short speak funny? They were born in Toronto and lived her
till their 20's. If you listen to them on talk shows, they sound the
same as Americans and they are not acting in interviews.
Well, I think the Canucks down there speak "normal", but I can understand
the subtle American accents. or American*isms. Anyway, when Canucks
any amount of time in the US, they tend to pick up on the local "accent".of
And, btw, look at Madonna, American through and through. After one month
living in England, she started speaking with a rather posh English accent.
That may be the "poseur" in her, though. \
Especially if she started using an English accent after a month. I used to
watch SCTV and was at Second City performances when Eugene Levy and Martin
Short were in Second city, and that was before they moved to the US and made
movies, and to me, they sound exactly the same in US movies as they did
before they even went to the U.S so I don't think they need to pick up any
American accent. I think American and Canadian accents are very much the
same in most cases unless people from Georgia and southern US who have their
own accents (which I have trouble understanding) or Newfoundandlers who
sound different from the rest of Canada. Like I said before, if you listen
to CNN or Buffalo news, and listen to Canadian news such as CTV, the news
anchors sound much the same.
