Windows installation went like a dream, and so far it's workingYep it certainly is, congrats.
fine.
I think the reboot problems are occuring when doing an upgrade of an
existing Vista instalation.
I upgraded from Vista. As I said in an earlier post, it warned that
there would be several reboots during installation so I wouldn't
consider that a problem. I didn't encounter any 'stalling' either.
Hah, but Miz Helen, I am sure that you had your blackthorn in full
view of that glowing eye. Not even the mighty M$ would dare challenge
that!
I guess that millions have been successful and only a few with fancy
hardware that have failed or partial success like Neb's although the
manufacturer might have published an updated driver.
I don't think I explained myself very well Scotty. My computer works -
everything Microsoft could have installed it has installed. Windows 7 is
performing very well.
No, I got that bit clearly, but plug in cards with their associated Driver
and Application often, if not always have problems with a new operating
system. Dog knows what quirk M$ might have introduced.
The software provided on the CD was probably developed and certainly
manufactured a few months ago and I was suggesting, probably badly that one
should always get the latest software from the manufactures web-site. For
eg.
http://www.comprousa.com/en/download/sseries.html lists the latest driver
as being released 24/08/2009, V1.3.8.2 which is probably later than the
stuff in the shop or on the CD. Even then it is earlier than the release
date for Win7.
The latest viewer application is dated 01/10/2009, V4.54.100. And even if
that doesn't work properly AND you're brave/desperate, you could still try
the very latest beta software here:
http://www.comprousa.com/en/download/bd.html
Don't feel badly, I was just suggesting that it is not unusual or
unexpected.
There is the possibility that everything IS working but the people just
don't like the user interface, in which case it is appropriate to consider
an alternative Application but even then it would probably still be using
the manufacturers driver software which goes between the Display software
and the hardware,
Hope that's clearer,
Have fun
Scott.
ps There is someone in this group, who shall remain nameless, who still,
after many years, hasn't updated his video software and that after spending
good money for a new flat-screen display, but can't benefit from it. :-)
I took the option whilst making a new computer to get a PC satellite card.
My satellite receiver box does not cope with High Definition channels and
this one should.

The problems come with the software that the manufacturer of the card
provides.
A lot of people on forums are unhappy with the software that comes bundled
with the card and have paid for 3rd party software instead. My first tries
with it have been very disappointing. I have other things to do at the
moment, making sure I move everything I need from the old PC for a start,
but I may buy other software and try it again later.
First try the latest (free) software before spending money, I thought you
were Scots. It even pains me to see other people unnecessarily spend money
:-)
Neb.
