It is not the first time that a clandestine group
of 'elite' posters has been found to exist on
soc.culture.scottish. I believe that they are
determined to rule the world. :-)

I was alerted to this about 5 or 6 years ago
by a Canadian who followed their every move.
It was quite some fun following their 'secret'
plots and machinations.

I will not name names, but Glenallan was not
one of them.

Be warned. Things are not necessarily as
they appear to be. :-)

Going back a bit. The Duke of URL is there. About 15 years ago
maybe?

Ian O is there...

I wish he were here.

So do I.

About 2003 I reckon. I am posting under my own name, rather than
as Nebulous. I think I joined SCS around 2002.

It's really strange how they have picked apart all the posts to
look like we were posting to their forum, and how they are
presenting everything as if it was newly written though. What
can be the point in that?

"They?" Who??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzlG28B-R8Y

Whoever made that website. 'They' are pretending to have a huge
chat forum with millions of posts, while all the Scottish ones at
least have been taken straight from SCS. I am assuming the rest
have been taken from other usenet forums. Then 'they' are
representing 6 year old posts as current.

There is likely to be a mundane answer; trying to exaggerate
importance to increase advertising fees for instance, but it seems
like an awful lot of effort to me.

How do they even *do* that? I don't understand the technology. It
seems pretty labour intensive. And whoever even *heard* of that
website??? ... well except us now ... :)

- nilita

It really is not difficult.

http://groups.google.com/

Go there and have a wee play around. Google archive the posts of all
the groups so, if someone has said something that you want to throw
back at them, search for it and there it is.

But ... but ... but ... putting them on a new site and in a different
format? I guess that's something only technoweenies would
understand. It seems quite labour intensive.

There are many WYSIWYG web site progs around. Some of them for free.
Thing is they do tend to bloat the files they produce. It is not code
as such. It is what is known as, "A mark-up Language". It is really
just text so humble programs such as textpad can be used to write it
but that means you have to learn the Mark-up Language. Probably the
best free web builder is, "Arachnophilia", and you can download it
from - http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/

Are they hoping to make money somehow on other people's labours? And to
think I used to believe Deja News to be incredibly clever ...;p

- nilita

The Author of Arachnophilia gives the program away for free and just ask
that if you like it you send him a postcard.
I used it years ago but he has improved it several times since then and I
have taken my site down as the ISP insisted on putting ads on it.
