Maybe where you live but we didn't even get (so-called at 514kps)
broadband in the Tablelands until about 6 months ago!
Try running an online jewelry business with hi-definition pics at those
speeds - let alone the dial-up we were stuck with for three years prior to

Most people who choose to live in the Hinterland [I noticed that wee slip

do so because they don't want all the modern necessities.
You have to prioritise just what you are looking for , Shangri la and
Eutopia or
Commercialism and technology. Sheesh I only have 514kps where I am although
I have to admit we
'could' get faster, but too fast and I couldn't read it anyway.

No wonder the government has had to start building it's own network from
scratch - and Telstrasaur has blocked progress in every possible way they
could. And this in a huge rich country with a small popualtion. Oz should
be the world leader in internet technology- they currently rank 17th.

And don't even get me started on the health 'system' and it's insane
antiquated practices and regulations.
Pre-historic.
They don't even have a sate-wide, let alone national, computerised data
base for patients. Well - actually - they DO, but "We don't use that here
because no-one knows how to work it - we write it all up by hand" (And
keep it in the local office) Genuine quote from right here 4 weeks ago.

Again - the fault of where you choose to bide. I will admit I have heard
horror stories
over the health system, but speak as you find and we personally have
found our
public health system wonderful and it hasn't cost us personally one single
penny
[although we have paid into it over our workingyears.]
The private health fund system is another matter altogether and extremely
unfair to those who choose to be part of it

The different business and transport laws and taxes every time you cross
over into a neighbouring state?!!
True true - I sympathise on that one [nodding sympathetically] but it is
not
unusual in large countries, why should we be different from the States I
ask...

Three different railway gauges between Brisbane and Perth!! Not to mention
about 3 days or more to get there.

How fast would you expect to get to Brisbane from Perth across a continent?
and why would you bother .....
People who do this by rail are generally doing it for the experience - if
you want to
get there faster catch a plane. Nobody here likes rushing around all over
the place -
wait til you get to Tassie and you will no what slow is. They won't travel
two hour
without needing an overnight stop.

Some decent food would be nice too. I have to travel 160 miles to get a
jar of Marmite firkrissake.
Well obviously that isn't considered decent food where you are living or it
would
be stocked more locally; its simply business economics. I doubt they have
even
heard of Marmite when they have Vegemite - I bet they stock that! I can't
even get
treacle or malt here in the Melbourne suburbs, but do you hear me
griping and moaning about it?????

And when is the concept of equality for women going to get here? Next
century if we're lucky.

What about sending the black kids to school every day? I think that would
be a great idea.
Its a bit hard if there are no schools where they are - would you like the

steal them away from their families so they can give them a better life ??
No No
much better to give them an attendance allowance so they will send their
kids to school,
add free books and uniforms, then they can keep the allowance for whatever
they
really need to spend it on
