Actually, depending on where you're eating out, eating out one day a
week might come close to half your food budget for the week. A
typical (non-fast food) meal in a restaurant will cost you around 3x
what buying food to eat at home will cost you. So if you're eating
out one day a week, your food costs will go from 7x to 9x and around a
third of your food budget is going to restaurants.

Now, if you're one of those people who is habituated to drinking that
awful and expensive coffee at places like Starbucks, it's not hard at
all to run that up.

Thus, it's easily shown to anyone who isn't totally innumerate that
Asshat the White Settler's silly claims about how Americans eat out as
much as they eat at home is total ballocks. Of course, we already
knew that intuitively, since virtually everything he says is total
ballocks.

I thought about that very thing after I made the post.
A typical meal for two (with drinks) might easily run 50 to 60 bucks though
20 to 30 bucks might be more the norm.
That would be a significant share of the food budget.
Of course eating out should be included in the entertainment budget, not the
food budget.
So Adam is still WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Anyway, all this points out how much cheaper foodstuffs can be bought in
America as opposed to the more "Civilized" areas of the world.
Eat your hearts out, Yurp.
