I only take seven, vitamin A, C, E, selenium, folic acid and zinc.

I ascribe my youthful good looks to never have had a beverage laced with
iodine, Oh, I nearly forgot and Omega 3

That fish oil is a miracle.....

It's a great deal better to eat the fish than to take the supplements.

You're right Neb, I love fish, especially the oily ones usually recommended
as a source of fatty acids like mackerel. While I was in Cape Town I
discovered a delicious one that the locals call Butter fish, very "rich"
but very yummy.

Some Google pages describe it as similar to flounder but it looks like a
cousin of mackerel.

My problem is that when I'm advised to eat more fish, it is always
accompanied with the caveat "but not more than two or three portions per
week", because of the mercury risk.

During the war, my mother pumped us full of cod liver oil and Scott's
emulsion. I don't know why it lasted only during the war years because it
stopped when the war ended. I distinctly remember, when the mercury scare
first started the source was attributed to German U-boats because they had
used mercury as ballast. Now what did I have for breakfast again? :-)

I don't understand how that can be true because elemental mercury is not
soluble in water and beside, there is a hell of a lot of water and a
relatively small number of U-boats sunk and that leaked mercury..

But if true, and the stuff accumulates in the fish liver, my mother
probably poisoned us with cod liver oil and probably accounts for my many
quirks... Eating German mercury might even account for why that idiot PP
thinks I'm a Nazi.

My hope is that the Omega fatty acids in capsules are synthesized and not
extracted from mercury contaminated fish.

Maybe if Deirdre is reading she could comment.

Scott.
