I don't have any contact with them whatsoever if I can possibly avoid
it.
You've no idea.
For example it just took 15 phone calls - *fifteen phone calls* - to
Telstra over a two and a half hour period to NOT get our new mobile
phone working.
Absolutely par for the course here. I'll never slag off British Telecom
again.
I don't know. BT have deteriorated even further since you left. I
wouldn't have believed the issues my son had with them if I hadn't seen
them for myself.
I don't know if this will work, but here's a message I put in uk.telecom
about it.

Ah yes - dear old BT. Wish we could get service like that.
After 15 calls we are still at the 'trying to find someone who speaks
English' stage. The fun part is yet to come.
I was right as it has turned out.
We have now made a total of 37 calls and spoken to 121 different people in
every state in Australia. All these calls have been timed and documented in
a notebook we soon began using for this sole purpose.
We *still* have not been able to return the mobile phone that has never
worked nor the totally incompatible 3 foot antennae (!) they later sent us
and we've been trying since about August.
Last friday they sent us a bill for $506 for the
mobile-that-has-never-been-used PLUS a final demand for a bill that was paid
two months ago. Incidentily the bill is nearly twice what it should be too.
We spent a few hours trying to find out what the $506 bill was actually
aleggedly for but no-one could tell us. We did get one breif laugh when one
of the 121 people informed us that we couldn't return the phone until they
had "sent out a team (A ****ing TEAM! no less) to make sure that the mobile
phone really didn't work" in this area. This after two months trying to
getthe account annulled and find out where to send the phone (and 3 ft
incompatible antennae) back too.
I wrote to their complaints department (yet again) telling them that we had
documented every call and we were about to hand over the story to the TV
stations (they love this sort of thing) and newpapers via our MP and
solicitor if they didn't sort it out NOW!
Well amazingly someone from the complaints dept phoned us!! First time ever.
You can't phone them, you have to write and wait for them to phone you -
which they have never done 'til now. Seemed to have done the trick and they
promised faithfully that the head gadgy would phone back at midday today to
sort it all out finally.
He didn't of course. Next thing will be the final demand for the $506 of
course - and risking our credit rating and mortgage to fight them through
the courts at our expense I suspect.
I'm sure you're all fascinated so I'll keep you posted.
