What Is GERD?Any website mentioning "ezy-cash.com" leaves me cold with disinterest.
Gastroesophageal reflux, often referred to as GERD, occurs when acid from
the stomach backs up into the esophagus. Normally, food travels from the
mouth, down through the esophagus and into the stomach. A ring of muscle
at
the bottom of the esophagus, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES),
contracts
to keep the acidic contents of the stomach from "refluxing" or coming back
up into the esophagus. In those who have GERD, the LES does not close
properly, allowing acid to move up the esophagus.

Gastroesophageal reflux, is often ignored by sufferers to their
distress at a later date. There are several possible reasons for it.
It may be what is called 'mechanical' having its origin in the
improper action of the 'cap' of the stomach, or it may be the result
of a much underestimated complaint known as Dyspepsia, which
in turn may have at its root, stress, or even such simple things as
overindulgence or simply unwise eating.
Persistent symptoms of any of the above should be discussed
with your Medical Practitioner. Ignoring these symptoms may
lead to duodenal or peptic ulceration. These are often scoffed
at but can be and are often the source of great human misery.
Do not attempt to treat yourself by quackery, and ensure you
have taken wise medical counsel. Reflux occasionally has much
more serious consequence.
Your Physician may well recommend one or other of the new
generation of highly potent drugs to cure you in 4-6 weeks,
but some people may well be more resistant to these beneficial
treatments.
In all medical matters that may worry you, you must seek the
counsel of your Doctor, especially as age becomes a major
factor of your life. There is nothing new in medicine, but there
are new ways of dealing with old problems.

Very true G.
I have had it for years, originally ulcers caused scarring of the cap of the duodenum. For years I took Zantac, then its generic replacement. About a year ago side effects previously unknown began to show themselves, big time, so I was placed on PPIs (proton pump inhibitors?). They have worked very well for me but I know that there are long term risks but there is little choice given the severity of my problem.
None of the alternative (always my first choice) remedies even touched the problem. Very few people outside the medical field realise the risk from gastric reflux and "heartburn".
