I can only speak of the Simon Fraser Pipe Bands in superlatives.
They appear regularly at Glasgow Green for the World Pipe Band
Championships, presenting 3 or 4 full Pipe Bands. They are a wonderful
spectacle.

There were three groups of them at the local Highland games. A sort of
A, B, and C bands - the best, the second best, etc..

Another Canadian Band from Alberta is distinguished by all dressing
in black shirts with every piper and drummer having dyed platinum
blonde hair. Quite 'spooky', really.

I haven't run into them yet. It sounds as though they're substituting
showmanship for talent.

I used to watch this at Glasgow Green (the world championship). That
was the days when Strathclyde police always won though. I normally
could stand about one hour and then had to leave. It just gets to you
eventually. One day a Scot will invent a pipe that is a real musical
instrument.
