The smaller companies who take over are leaner, meaner and able to get
more oil out of the ground. They also bring onshore staff as well.

The biggest problem in Aberdeen at the moment is that it is doing too
well!

Neb, I was wondering if you actually mis-posted
the above site to illustrate your point, for it is hardly
a ringing endorsement of your words.

It talks of house market inflation, the need for affordable
housing and an increase in Aberdeen's homeless.

I am sure that not everyone is on inflated contractor / consultant
pay checks. I know about these. I used to be one myself.

Glenallan, sometimes I'm just not very good at getting my point across.

Oil has been good for Aberdeen, don't get me wrong. The North-East is the
economic powerhouse of Scotland, if not of Britain. We are the 3rd most
prosperous region of Britain, 14th of 250 regions of Europe. My house is
worth more than I could have imagined even 5 years ago.

Yet it has a downside. Working for a voluntary organisation is not exactly a
lucrative business, even in a senior position. So I know about trying to
compete with people who are on inflated salaries only too well. The thing is
that local people who don't work in oil get frozen out and people can even
land up homeless, because they can't compete in the market.

That is exactly what I meant when I said the biggest problem is that we are
doing too well.
