Not really - it's pretty much true what Bryn is saying. If I could
be
bothered I could probably list at least 20 films that give Americans
credit for British successes.
Like the myth about an American being the first to walk on the moon
for
example.
I bet almost every American thinks that's true.

Everyone knows that walk occurred on a Hollywood back lot and was
designed
to scare the Russkies into surrendering the Cold War....

Much, much more creditworthy was the return of Apollo 13 held together
by
prayer and duct tape. If prayer fails duct tape seldom does...

Not so good on ducting though...

The movie was scary enough.
Imagine actually being in the ship.
"Houston, we have a problem"

I seldom break out in cold sweat.
In fact while watching the film was probably the first time. The real
thing must have been worse. I can think of nothing more chilling than to
be stuck out in space in something slightly larger than a dust bin, a
computer slightly more powerful than a Sinclair ZX80 and a failing air
supply.

Getting back was one of the greatest feats of the modern age and an
example of what human ingenuity is about.

A great resource for the actual Apollo transmissions is:

Click on Multimedia on the left.

The Apollo 13 service module explosion transmissions are erie for
their calmness.

The Apollo 8 'Go for TLI' and 'TLI burn sequence' are memorable as the
fledgelings leave the nest for the first time. TLI is Trans Lunar
Injection, meaning 'no turning back now'.

The whole of the Apollo 11 landing sequence is amazing. At about 5000
ft they had an alarm that the main computer was overloaded. Not the
most reassuring news, but they got the go anyway. At 3000 ft the same
thing happened. Then, about 2 minutes before landing, at about 1000
ft, Armstrong had to take manual control to avoid landing in a large
crater with a rock field beyond it. When Ground Control gives the
numbers "60 seconds" and "30 seconds", that is how much time until the
fuel runs out.

Did you know all that was routed via a single receiving station in Parkes in
outback Australia - as were the TV pictures of the first moon walk?
It was the only one in the southern hemisphere that could do the job.

I hear that NASA have lost the tapes now. Or they had back in August - Did
they turn up yet does anyone know?
Apparently the pictures where first shown on a screen with a TV camera aimed
at it. The original screen pictures are much better quality than the images
we all saw. There were hopes to digitaly enhance them with modern technology
and show the world a much clearer picture of the studio - er... I mean the
moon's surface - but now they are missing.
