Don't you just love that.
The worst case of bad taste I ever saw was a gigantic 'Santa and
sleigh'
complete with 6 three times natural size plastic reindeer and a Santa
that
was lit up inside at night and waved mechanically. It would have looked
grotesque in a fairground, but this was ( every year) raised onto the
roof
of a hillside bungalow above the little village of Strathpeffer in the
Highlands and could be seen for miles.
No doubt all done for the 'benefit' of the local population.
Beyond belief.

Scrooge McSettlar strikes again..........
"Bah, humbug", Scrooge.

If one absolutely _has_ to decorate, there are ways of
doing so which _don't_ waste energy. All people tend to
think about when doing this is how it's going to impact
their electric bill, but in this area, electricity is generated
by burning coal and while new technologies have made the
process a bit cleaner, those millions of outdoor fairy lights
and glowing figurines only do so because somewhere a
limited, fossil fuel resource is being utilised...and they
never think about _that_.

In short, it means all the time and effort I spend reducing
my energy use and carbon footprint is being squandered
my neighbours' annual spin-the-electric-metre orgy.

I don't mind the odd string of lights here or there, in
fact, when there's snow on the ground and the lights
are shining through it, I think it's quite pretty. But I'm
with Adam on this...I find this OTT make-it-look-like-the-
Las-Vegas-strip nonsense which exponentially increases
every year to be retarded.

Oh Jaysus, another Sheila joins Adam's merry band.
But I agree, excessive lights are a waste and a drain on our resources.
We should follow Adam's suggestion and return to beeswax candles on our
trees.
The resultant fires would decrease the Christian population by at least
thirty percent.
;=)
