the mere mention of Inverness.

Given Dave's leaning toward depression, Inverness would not have been a
first choice. Its awful gloomy in the Winter.. And the Spring...

"Awful gloomy"???? Div ye no mean Muckle driech? This has a certain element
not encompassed by the English Awful gloomy.


When used to phone Inverness it was possible to tell what the weather (light) was like by the tone of voice of the person answering the phone.
"Nice day there then?"
"Well, aye, how did you know?"
