I did respond, George, I told you that I wouldn't
waste my time discussing things with you that
you clearly don't understand.
That is not a response. That is a cop-out. You are afraid to respond to
it because you might be wrong (at at least not know as much about the
paleoecology of cyanobacteria as you think you do), and we can't have the
resident expert be wrong, can we?
Oh, course we can, George, because you patently
_are_.
You began with:
"(obviously they weren't if they were churning out oxygen, poisoning the
oceans and atmosphere with it, and killing other lifeforms - the ones
that
already existed - in the process), but that they were the lifeforms that
ultimately led to mammals and humans."
And last Thursday I indicated to you why your
supposition was incorrect by pointing out there
were no land based lifeforms to be "poisoned" by
the atmosphere, that cyanophyta exudates have
be demonstrated to _aid_ in anaerobic biomass
production and that cyanophyta issued in the
Golden Age of DMRBs.
You responded with:
"Many anaerobic bacteria cannot survive in an oxygenated environment."
It was here I decided it was pointless to continue
because it seemed fairly obvious to me your know-
ledge base of anaerobes is about at the level of a
university freshman and I've already done my pen-
ance time with freshman. I told you then that I
wouldn't engage.
Now, here we...days later...and you're still dogging
my heels about it. If you can't understand the sim-
ple concept of "I will not discuss this with you."
how can you possibly be expected to understand
the not so-simple concepts of carboxyl groups in
the 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate residue of the lipo-
polysaccharide molecule or the phosphoryl groups
of teichoic acids? How can you discuss the seques-
tering mechanism of cyanophyta paracrystalline,
hexagonal S-layers when you don't even grasp the
most basic constructs of ultrastructures?
Your tenacity in demanding I engage with you leads
me to believe no matter what is presented, you'll
simply dig in your heels and continue to present
your layman's argument...probably in an unpleasant,
confrontational fashion with the odd hormonal dig
tossed in whenever you feel thwarted or outclassed.
And despite all this, you can't seem to understand
why I'm not chomping at the bit to "prove you wrong".
George, it's very simple. I don't _care_ if you're
wrong.
"Many anaerobic bacteria cannot survive in an oxy-
genated environment." is not at a level which holds
any interest for me...I'm not going to learn anything
about microbial metabolism from you and I certainly
have no interest in teaching someone as antagonis-
tic as you. Your first post on the topic claimed "Well,
origin of species (cyano-bacteria) is about as natural
as it gets." and when I pointed out to you that they
were one of the last, rather than first, prokaryotes
to arise, you claimed it was a metaphor.
I find that brand of disengeniousness both distasteful
and dishonest...and have no desire to pursue a scien-
tific "discussion" with someone who deems such tac-
tics acceptable when there are honest discussions to
be had elsewhere.
Deal with it.
Deirdre
